A research and implementation partnership

 About Us

Interagency Committee on Seismic Safety in Construction (ICSSC)

The National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) was created in 1977 by Public Law 95-124. In 1978, the Interagency Committee on Seismic Safety in Construction (ICSSC) was created as a function of NEHRP and comprises representatives of all federal agencies engaged in construction, financing of construction, or related activities. The mission of the ICSSC is to assist federal agencies in developing and incorporating earthquake risk reduction measures in their ongoing programs.

The NEHRP Lead Agency shall lead the ICSSC and shall lead the development and maintenance of ICSSC guidelines to assist the agencies with implementing earthquake risk reduction measures in their construction programs. The secretariat for the ICSSC can be reached at icssc@nist.gov.
